by admin

The building in Modica that belonged to the Nobel Prize for Literature is subject to restriction. The Government has the ok to buy

One million euros for the purchase and enhancement of Salvatore Quasimodo’s birthplace in Modica. This was decided by the Musumeci government, on the proposal of the councilor for cultural heritage and Sicilian identity, Alberto Samonà. With the resolution of the regional council, the cultural and technical heritage departments were given a mandate to initiate the procedures required by law.

The house of the writer is subject to cultural constraints and therefore, in the event of a possible sale, it is envisaged that the Region can exercise the right of pre-emption. In recent days, at the news of the property being put up for sale, the Region had already taken action, instructing the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage of Ragusa to carry out a first technical inspection.

«Acquiring the house of the Modican Nobel Prize to the regional heritage – comments President Musumeci – is a moral duty rather than a necessity. We will insert the property in the circuit of the house-museums of the island, which we have set up a few months ago, to become centers of attraction for cultural tourism ».

“The regional government – adds the commissioner Samonà – with this resolution allocates an important sum that will serve not only to prevent this symbolic place from being lost, but also and above all, to guarantee its future use according to adequate museum standards”.
