ROME – After last year’s postponement to October, due to the pandemic, the 2021 edition of the Mille Miglia is getting closer, at least for the presentation, to the traditional date set for May. Thus the organizers of the “most beautiful race in the world” as the “drake” Enzo Ferrari called it, today presented the new edition in live streaming from the Mille Miglia museum, which will start from Brescia on 16 June.
The 375 cars admitted to the race, in addition to some particularly valuable specimens registered in a “Special List”, will touch about two hundred Italian municipalities and, as usual, will make the halfway point in Rome at the end of the second day of competition to return in Brescia on Saturday 19 June. For the first time in the history of the re-enactment 1000 Miglia, resuming the counter-clockwise direction of some editions of the speed race held between 1927 and 1957, the route of the race will be reversed, descending towards Rome along the Tyrrhenian side, while the return it will take place on the other side of the Belpaese, with the classic passages in Arezzo, Bologna, Modena, Verona, Sirmione and for the first time in Salò.
This year’s edition of the Mille Miglia is also characterized by the theme “Crossing the Future”, a claim that perfectly embodies the dual soul of the event, which today combines tradition and heritage on the one hand and innovation and experimentation on the other. .
Crossing the Future is the common thread that unites the historic race, at the time a showcase of the most technological and innovative cars, with the re-enacting Mille Miglia that proposes the same objective by combining the electric cars of the Green competition and the modern supercars of the Experience. “Mille Miglia has always been a window on the future of the automobile – explained Alberto Piantoni, CEO of the race – from 1927 to 1957, competition has been synonymous with experimentation, technological innovation and the future of the automobile. Today we want to bring back to life the same spirit and audacity of those years to respond to the challenges that characterize mobility and today’s world, starting with the theme of sustainability. We did it, for example, with the introduction of the electric cars of the Mille Miglia Green which from 16 to 19 June will have to retrace this challenge in electric mode “.
In this sense, the “Green Talk”, a round table organized by Mille Miglia and the Symbola Foundation, dedicated to the theme of sustainable mobility, to the challenges and trends of the future of the automotive sector, will be proposed again this year (Tuesday 15 June). Finally, the “Ferrari Tribute Mille Miglia”, the collateral event dedicated to over one hundred cars of the prancing horse, a symbol of Italian excellence in the world, has been confirmed.
