ROMA – Back to the future, but this time for real. No movie sets, no sequel to the Zemeckis trilogy: the DeLorean of the films that made record sales in the 90s today becomes a new reality. The car protagonist of the successful series, the DeLorean DMC-12, a vehicle that had no luck on the real market, is presented in a renewed version with an electrification made by the Germans of eCap and will soon also have a hydrogen-powered version.
To make the conversion, as mentioned, was the German eCap, which replaced the original engine with one specifically designed for converting historic cars to electric. With a power of 60 kW, the car maintains the original manual gearbox, but at the same time uses a highly respectable electric engine, obviating the drawbacks that were encountered in the original version with combustion engine. The autonomy given by the lithium batteries is about 200 km, with a supply of 42 kWh. The arrangement of the electric socket for recharging is also original, “hidden” behind the rear number plate and which opens with a tilting mechanism.
The price of the car that “returns from the future” has not yet been announced, but it is likely that, even if high, it will find the appreciation of many motorists who want to drive an original and charismatic vehicle for its cinematic “history”.
