The Smart colored one like Senna’s F1

by admin

This is the story of a mechanical father, of his love for Formula 1 and a passion passed on to his son for Ayrton Senna. The result? The car you see. So good to Gianluca Giacobbe, now 46 years old but who as a child was brought and dragged by his father for the Italian circuits, whether they were Imola or Monza. Those were other years, those of a more human-sized Formula 1, as they say today. The pilots were reachable, almost friends compared to the current strict rules.

But that’s another story. Let’s go back to us, that is, to Jacob and Seine. Do you know what he did, driven by his love for the Brazilian driver? It led him, with painstaking patience, to modify a 2013 Smart ForTwo Cabrio to be inspired by one of the most iconic cars that the Brazilian driver has raced in Formula 1.
Initially Giacobbe had thought of intervening on a Honda car, taking into account the relationship that the Japanese brand had with McLaren, then he changed his mind: better a car not linked to the world of the paddock, with a fulminated idea born during a visit to Vallelunga , racetrack north of Rome.

And so we come to the Smart ForTwo Cabrio, painted on the outside in the traditional white and red colors of the McLaren that Ayrton drove, with the interior modified with a steering wheel that has Senna’s “S”. The engine has also been tweaked, with the addition of a Range Rover 2.4 diesel intercooler, a multiple exhaust and electronic recalibration of the engine and transmission. Thus the “Smart Senna” has a power of 180 HP and reaches 200 km / h. Giacobbe also worked on the suspension: he recalibrated the shock absorbers and modified the braking system with the brake calipers of the FIAT 500 Abarth.

Realized, the “Smart Senna” attracted curiosity and interest: Jacob received numerous purchase proposals, so many that convinced him to create his own brand, GG. “Because those who loved Senna never stopped.
