The fight against climate change starts with school. After months of study and discussions, the project of the association for the Heritage of Wine Landscapes, financed by the Ministry of Culture and wanted to sensitize the community of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato to the phenomenon of “climate change” and the impact rising temperatures on World Heritage vineyards and wines. And which is developed through educational courses activated in recent days in the schools of the area, to involve students of all levels.

From the children of the primary “Umberto Sacco” to the children of the Moretta middle schools up to the young people who attend the Cillario institute and the Enologica di Alba. And it is precisely with “Umberto I” that the collaboration will be particularly important. Among the soils chosen for the installation in the coming weeks of detection sensors that measure data such as the water and nutrient requirements of the vines, or the humidity rate, the foliar growth and the degree of ripeness of the grapes, there is also the experimental vineyard of the Enological school on the slopes of the castle of Grinzane.

«Our institute has always been involved in training sector technicians attentive to an agriculture that combines economic sustainability with essential environmental sustainability – says Antonella Germini, head teacher of Umberto I -. We are happy that part of this experimentation can take place in the vineyards of our farms, consolidating the relationship between school, research and production ».

The Alba association Ambiente & Cultura collaborates with the training project (extended to Asti), to bring young people closer to understanding the science of climate change. “The goal is to work on the new generations – says the director of the wine landscapes association, Roberto Cerrato -, trying to raise awareness and develop in them the ability and willingness to social change in a sustainable key”.
