ROME – It’s called the F-150 Responder and is the new “weapon” of the US police: a pick-up designed especially for chases. The idea comes from Ford which, starting from the new F-150 Supercrew, has created a kind of monster to hunt thieves: 400 horsepower V6 3500 Ecoboost engine, ten-speed automatic transmission and a top speed of 193 km / h. In addition to the optimized gearbox, the vehicle was fitted with specially developed Goodyear Wrangler Enforcer all-terrain tires. Ford commented that the tires are “uniquely designed to handle fast acceleration, high speeds and high-speed cornering on paved roads, and can withstand the heat generated in chases without sacrificing off-road capabilities.”
The system is paired with the FX4 Off-Road package which includes an electronically locking rear differential, adjustable shock absorbers and descent control. Speaking of capacity, the F-150 Police Responder has a standard towing capacity of 3175kg and an available towing capacity of 5080kg. On the subject of options, there is a new system available that allows drivers to remove the key from the ignition and get out of the car, while keeping the engine, lights and sirens running. The F-150 also offers a new factory-installed center console and a new internal work surface that provides a flat area for writing or working on a computer.
