Turin Book Fair, Nicola Lagioia confirmed until 2023

The Turin Book Fair will soon have a new editorial director, but at least until 2023 Nicola Lagioia will still be at the helm of the book event. This is what was announced this morning at a press conference by the president of the Turin Association of the City of Books, Silvio Viale. The dates of the 2022 edition have been confirmed, from 19 to 23 May, while the rumors that had circulated in recent weeks are founded: an expression of interest will be launched shortly for the search for a new director. Lagioia’s successor will be identified by the partners who will have to establish the criteria in choosing the new appointee. The latter will support Lagioia in the next two editions, and then replace it in its entirety for the 2024 edition.

In the meantime, this year’s theme was also announced: “Wild Hearts”. “We live in a turbulent world, full of problems, but with a lot of hope for the future – said Lagioia – And in this, culture can only help everyone”. The manifesto of the Salone del Libro 2022, by Emiliano Ponzi, is a hymn to throw the heart over the obstacle, to look beyond the horizon like two boys who run towards the future in a city that has just woken up.

The Salone gets bigger
The unusual autumn edition of 2021, due to a pandemic, however, has rekindled the hopes of publishers who are investing heavily. “The show will expand and big names in international culture are on the way,” said Lagioia. The total area will be 110,000 square meters, an absolute record. In just over two months, publishers bought 11,000 square meters, 20% more than previous editions. There will be 16,700 square meters for visitors with a direct link between Hall 1 and the Oval.
