Valentino, a fire destroys the iconic Rockstud shoe factory

Start again as soon as possible, moving production to new premises. This is the intention of Valentino after the great fire which, in the night between Thursday 1 and Friday 2 April, destroyed the shoe factory and the logistics warehouse of the maison in Bucine, in the province of Arezzo. No one was present at the time of the stake. In addition to the building, machinery and plants, thousands of shoes (including semi-finished and finished products) were also burned, causing damage estimated at several million euros.

The implantation of Valentino Rockstud shoes

The one that went on fire, due to causes still to be ascertained, is a strategic plant of the group: in fact, the Valentino Shoes Lab produces Rockstud, women’s shoes decorated with studs have now become a world legend. Alongside these there is also a small production of men’s shoes. Overall, we are talking about 1,500 pairs of shoes made every week.

The Arezzo plant, which had been modernized last December with the addition of new machinery, employs 160 workers, which have now been largely placed on layoffs, waiting to know when and where the business can start again. Times are tight: the decision – let Valentino know – will arrive by Friday 9 April.

The solutions to continue production

The company is evaluating various hypotheses, from that of renting another warehouse in the Arezzo Valdarno, in which to transfer production, to that of using the other Tuscan plant of the group in Montelupo Fiorentino, about 80 kilometers away. The solution could also be a mix of these two hypotheses. “We are working to reprogram production activities in order to minimize the socio-economic impact – assures Jacopo Venturini, CEO of Valentino, defining the plant – an industrial excellence».
