With the scooter at 100 per hour? Welcome to the first road world championship

ROME – Ten teams, 30 riders, 6 Grand Prix: a World Championship with full-blown points, as in motorcycles or in Formula One. Only this time on the track there are flocks of electric scooters with performances very far from those that circulate on the street. It’s called the eSkootr Championship (eSC) and it started yesterday, May 14th, from London with the first race. After that, 5 other appointments will follow respectively on May 28 in Switzerland, June 18 in France, July 16 in Italy, September 17 in Spain and October (with dates to be defined) in the USA.

The idea came to two entrepreneurs of Lebanese origin, Hrag Sarkissian and Khalil Beschir (the latter competed in the A1 GP series between 2005 and 2008, participating in the development of Motorsport in the Middle East), who quickly managed to involve a team of people able to put together the initial specifications of the new Championship. These include former F1 and Le Mans driver Alex Wurz, appointed eSC Safety Ambassador, and Formula E champion Lucas Di Grassi, Sustainability Ambassador of the series.

Three riders are available for each of the 10 ten teams registered in eSC 2022, and among these also Helbiz Racing Team, world leader in micro-mobility, who will participate with the S1-X scooter made available by eSC and customized by Helbiz itself. A peculiarity of this championship is that all the scooters that will compete have been designed, engineered and developed by YCOM, a leading company in the Italian Motor Valley. On each vehicle each team applies its own colors.

The F1 scooter therefore has an aluminum and carbon fiber frame, while the aerodynamic parts are produced with a new completely recyclable natural fiber. The double electric motor on both wheels, for a total of 12kW pushes the vehicle to a maximum speed of 100 km / h, and thanks to the 6.5-inch wheels and racing tires with different compounds it is possible to “throw” into the corner with a angle of over 45 degrees.

The three pilots of the Helbiz Racing Team are the Italian driver Sara Cabrini, the American model and athlete Jordan Rand and the Swiss Jamiel Guarchadi. Next to them on the starting grid the other 9 stables of the Championship: the 258 Racing of Anthony Joshua, the 27X of Nico Hulkenberg, the Carlin team, the Los Rayos stable, the Scooter Murphy, the Nico Roche Racing (managed by the former cyclist on the road Irish professional and Olympian, Nico Roche), the Plyr: 1, the Racing Citizen and finally the Sick team! Racing Team led by Austrian mountain biker Fabio Wibmer.

“As in any competition, the fundamental element is safety: for this reason, the vehicle on which our team competes is equipped with the most advanced technologies, in order to protect each driver as much as possible, who will be equipped with clothing designed specifically for these types of tenders ”, explains Emanuele Liatti, Chief Product Manager of Helbiz. “We are proud to participate with the Helbiz S1-X in this important competition and we can’t wait to see our team speeding around the circuits of all the cities where eSC will bring the first World Championship of electric scooters: an absolute novelty and undoubtedly adrenaline “.
