In the classical music world, it has long been a common practice to commemorate the contributions made to the history of music by collectively performing works on the birthday or death of a composer for a whole number of years. 2021 is the 50th anniversary of the death of Stravinsky, the 100th anniversary of the death of Saint-Saëns, the 100th anniversary of the birth of Piazzola, the 110th anniversary of the death of Mahler and the 110th anniversary of the birth of the Chinese composer Ding Shande. At the same time, composers such as Vivaldi, Prokofiev and Schoenberg also ushered in the anniversary in 2021.
