50 thousand people suffer from osteoporosis in the province of Udine, advice for fighting it

Physiotherapy plays a crucial role in the fight against osteoporosis

New data from the Italian Ministry has revealed that osteoporosis affects 5 million Italians, with the majority being women in menopause. These numbers are particularly high in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, with an estimated 100 thousand people suffering from weakening of the bone, 50 thousand of which are in the province of Udine. This condition leads to premature aging due to a loss of the mineral component in the bones.

In light of these figures, the Order of Physiotherapists of Friuli Venezia Giulia has emphasized the significant role that physiotherapy can play in the treatment of osteoporosis. Aside from providing information and encouraging a healthy lifestyle, physiotherapists also offer concrete help in planning exercises that can be carried out independently at home, ultimately reducing the risk of falls and fractures.

Melania Salina, president of Ofi Fvg, stressed the importance of physiotherapy not only in rehabilitation but also in prevention and treatment. She recommended a holistic approach, including regular physical exercise, which has been scientifically proven to have benefits on bone remineralization. Salina also highlighted the need for balance and strengthening exercises, accompanied by appropriate medical therapy.

It is evident that physiotherapy has the potential to vastly improve the living conditions of those suffering from osteoporosis. By working in synergy with medical therapy, physiotherapists can develop personalized exercise programs that not only aid in rehabilitation but also prevent further damage and promote overall bone health.

With the right guidance and supervision from a physiotherapist, individuals can engage in exercises that not only strengthen their muscles but also contribute to the overall improvement of their condition. Physiotherapy has emerged as a powerful tool in the fight against osteoporosis, offering a comprehensive approach to treatment and prevention that can significantly improve the lives of those affected by this debilitating condition.
