According to reports, the A16 Bionic for the iPhone 14 series will be manufactured using the same 5nm process as the A15 Bionic for the iPhone 13 series, with Apple leaving a bigger performance leap to the M2 processor designed for the next-generation Mac.

According to sources, the A16 Bionic will use TSMC’s N5P process, which shows that the substantial upgrade of the A16 Bionic may not be as big as previously thought. The M2 will apparently be the first Apple processor to be upgraded to TSMC’s 3nm process and skip the 4nm process entirely, and is considered Apple’s first custom ARMv9 processor.

The source pointed out that Apple is still developing the final version of the M1 series of processors, which features an upgraded core structure. The M1, M1 Pro, M1 Max and M1 Ultra use energy-efficient Icestorm cores and high-performance Firestorm cores, just like the A14 Bionic.

It is said that Apple’s last M1 variant will be based on the A15 Bionic, with Blizzard energy-efficient cores and Avalanche high-performance cores, and the final processor of this M1 series may be used in the next-generation Mac Pro.
