In Italy there are at least 15 hospitals in which 100% of gynecologists are conscientious objector. This is the main figure that emerges from the ‘Never data!’ Survey, presented during the National Congress of the Luca Coscioni Association, by Chiara Lalli, Professor of History of Medicine, e Sonia Montegiove, computer science and journalist. A figure that, says the Coscioni association “does not appear in the Report on Law 194/78 (on voluntary termination of pregnancy) of the Ministry of Health, which, aggregating the data by Region, does not actually make public the percentages of objectors on the individual structures “. According to the Report, in fact, explains the Coscioni association, the maximum number of objectors that results is 85.8% in Sicily.
The Regions in which there are hospitals with 100% conscientious objector gynecologists are 10: Lombardy, Liguria, Piedmont, Veneto, Tuscany, Umbria, Marche, Basilicata, Campania, Puglia.
Among the other most interesting data that have emerged so far from the survey (to which about 60% of the local health authorities and hospitals have responded at the moment), the 5 centers in which all obstetric staff or anesthetists are objector. There are also 20 hospitals with a percentage of objecting doctors that exceed 80%. And another 13 with a percentage of medical and non-medical personnel that exceeds 80%.
“Our survey – said Lalli and Montegiove – has a political and a practical reason: the data should be published regularly and in a different way: open and detailed on the individual structures. Only if they are open do they allow women to choose which hospital to go to. , knowing first what is the percentage of objectors in the chosen structure Not all of them can choose because they live in a city where there is only one hospital or in a region where there is only one non-objector.
