Also back in 2022, FameLab, a sort of science communication championship: conceived in 2005 as part of the British Cheltenham Science Festivalhas touched 40 countries around the world and since 2012 has also been held in Italy.

What does it consist of? The participants, mainly young female researchers, have 3 minutes of time to tell, explain, disseminate e to understand a scientific topic of their choice (video). It tends to be difficult, like all respected scientific arguments. They are evaluated by a jury of industry scientists and journaliststhey go on in the selections and then they reach the final.

In the last 10 years, the FameLab championship, curated by Psiquadro, touched 25 Italian cities and involved over 200 cultural partners, including universities, research institutes, public bodies and communication companies and saw the participation of over a thousand competitors: this year, the first phase of the competition began on May 3, 8 cities (Ancona, Brescia, Camerino, Catania, Genoa, Milan, Turin and Trieste) and will end on May 31st. Just that day, the editorial staff of Italian Tech will be part of the jury who will evaluate the performance of the disseminators in the Genoese stage of the event.

As mentioned, the winners in the various cities will then access the national final (whose venue has yet to be revealed), which will take place in September on the occasion of the European Researchers’ Night.
