AMD releases space amplification solution “FidelityFX Super Resolution” to provide global players with high-quality and high-resolution gaming experience

by admin

AMD released a new leading spatial upscaling solution AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR). AMD FSR is an open source cross-platform technology designed to increase the screen update rate and present a high-quality, high-resolution gaming experience. More than 40 game developers announced that they will support FSR in their games and/or game engines. Currently, 7 games are the first to support FSR, including “22 Racing Series”, “Anno 1800”, “Evil Genius 2”, and “God’s Demise” “Fall”, “Kingshunt”, “Devil’s Terminator: Rebellion Moment” and “Time and Space Trail Blazers”, it is expected that more games will be added to support before the end of this year, including “DOTA 2”, “Polar War Howling 6” and “Evil” Ling Castle 8: The Village.

FSR widely supports more than 100 AMD processors and graphics cards. Compared with the native resolution in certain games, when the Performance mode is enabled at 4K resolution, FSR can bring an average 2.4 times performance improvement. The spatial enlargement technology uses advanced edge reconstruction algorithms to analyze the features in the original image, then reconstructs the image with a higher target resolution, and then performs sharpening processing and strengthening the fineness of the texture to further improve the image quality. Compared with common basic magnification methods, FSR can provide higher-quality edges and sharp pixel delicacy.

Scott Herkelman, AMD’s global vice president and general manager of the graphics business group, said that our goal for FidelityFX Super Resolution is to develop a world-class space magnification solution based on industry standards, so that game developers can easily and quickly use the main axis of the design. It also focuses on the actual situation in which players enjoy the game. FSR is an ideal upgrade technology in the industry. It does not require any special hardware. At the same time, it has been supported by many platforms and industry systems, so that all players can enjoy and experience. We are extremely pleased with the enthusiastic response and support from our developer partners, and we cannot wait for players to experience FSR in person.

AMD FSR provides 4 quality settings, including Ultra Quality, Quality, Balanced and Performance, allowing players to strike a balance between image quality and performance according to their needs, even when The most demanding visual functions such as ray tracing can also present a visually stunning high-performance gaming experience. In the ultra-high quality mode, the FSR image quality and the target native resolution can be said to be indistinguishable.

Scalable open source upgrade solution

AMD FSR is designed to be easily integrated into existing and newly developed games, and now supports DirectX 11, 12 and Vulkan API. FSR extensively supports many APUs and graphics cards, and is optimized for AMD Radeon RX 5000 and Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards, including mobile graphics cards, and also supports AMD Radeon RX 500 series, Radeon RX 480/470/460, Radeon RX Vega series graphics cards, all AMD Ryzen processors with built-in Radeon graphics cores, and display products from many rival manufacturers.

AMD FSR is expected to be available to game developers for free download on AMD GPUOpen in mid-July 2021. The open source community provides code, files, and related resources to help developers make full use of GPU program development resources.

Studio and game support

AMD FSR is the result of close cooperation with major game studios and game developers. More than 40 game developers have pledged to support and start to integrate FSR into top games and game engines. It is expected that more game manufacturers will adopt FSR technology before the end of this year.

Valve graphics developer Dan Ginsburg said that with AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution, we can provide customers with better image quality at a higher cost-performance ratio than full-resolution rendering. This is particularly attractive to mid-level GPU users, allowing them to open higher resolutions to play games. We are very happy that this technology can be widely used on all GPUs, and we are very happy to see AMD develop FSR through an open source model.

Pawel Lekki, Chief Operating Officer of Exor Studios, said that starting to build AMD Fidelity FX Super Resolution in “Space-Time Blazers” is the smoothest technology integration operation we have ever done. This is due to AMD’s “no black box” concept, which makes it very easy for us to build new technologies on PCs and game consoles and adjust them to the specifications of our game engines.
