Use genetically modified “good” bacteria to eliminate the bacteria responsible for dangerous infections, such as those that can occur in hospitals. This is the strategy described in a study published in the journal Molecular Systems Biology by a group of researchers from the Center for Genomic Regulation of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology.
The target is all those bacteria that defend themselves against antibiotics by forming films (or biofilms), such as the Staphylococcus aureus, which can colonize medical implants such as implants, pacemakers and catheters.
