Zhitong Finance APP was informed that Apple (AAPL.US) announced on May 10 that it would discontinue the iPod touch. It was the last version of the iPod still on sale, a move that would end more than 20 years of the portable music player. Apple said the iPod touch is still in stock while supplies last.

Apple first introduced the iPod in 2001, claiming it was an “ultra-portable music player that can store more than 1,000 CD-quality songs in a pocketable, pocket-friendly music player.” Apple thus ushered in the era of digital music.

The first version of the iPod touch, much like the iPhone, was launched in 2007. The latest version was launched in 2019.

Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, said many of Apple’s other products with integrated music playback will keep “the spirit of the iPod alive.”
