This brings us closer to eliminating all plastic in our packaging by 2025. We have also made good progress towards our goal of one day making our products without taking anything away from the earth. With Apple Watch Series 7, for example, 99% of the rare earth elements we use are recycled.
Ahead of COP26, I am also pleased to report – Cook added – that we have more than doubled the number of our suppliers who are committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2030. We are very encouraged to see growth in this sector, and will continue. to guide these changes in the supply chain in the months and years to come ».
The commitments of suppliers
In the United States, 19 suppliers of Apple’s Supplier Clean Energy Program, such as Solvay, are expanding their use of renewable energy across all Apple businesses, often extending this commitment beyond supplying for Apple.
In Europe, 19 suppliers are now part of the program, including STMicroelectronics, which, since joining Apple’s program, has launched nine additional programs to provide renewable energy to its other businesses.
In China, 50 suppliers have joined the program, and many of them are optimizing the use of on-site solutions. 31 suppliers joined India, Japan and South Korea, including SK Hynix, one of the first Korean suppliers to participate.
