In the past, Apple’s iPad could be used as a “home hub” to remotely control HomeKit appliances in the home. However, foreign media found that Apple may have removed this feature in the latest version.
Although the current official website still retains iPad support for “family hub”, after upgrading to the iOS 16 beta version, the foreign media “MacRumors” found that Apple’s “family” app commented that the iPad can no longer be used, and only Apple will be able to use it in the future. TV or HomePod only support, or explain the conversion of product positioning.
Apple has not yet stated the reason, but “MacRumors” speculates that it may be related to Apple’s upcoming cross-platform support for the Matter smart home appliance standard. If you are using iPad as a “family hub” and you are worried that the function will be affected, you may consider staying in the iPadOS 15 version temporarily.
