Apple: WWDC 2021 will be held online from 7 June

by admin

The 2021 edition of the Worldwide Developer Conference, the global developer conference for Apple platforms, will be held from June 7th to June 11th. This was announced a little while ago by the Cupertino company, confirming that the event – as already in 2020 – will be held entirely online. And just like last year’s conference, WWDC 2021 will also be completely free for anyone who wants to take part. For the developers it is a considerable advantage, considering that a ticket for the previous editions in the presence cost $ 1599 and could only be purchased by winning a special lottery for the allocation of the few thousand seats available.

The Worldwide Developer Conference will be an opportunity to showcase new software technologies. During the inaugural Keynote, which will be streamed on June 7, Apple will announce a preview of iOS 15, iPadOS 15, macOS 12, TvOS 15 and watchOS 8.

As already in 2020, the Cupertino company has announced a new edition of the Swift Student Challenge. From now until April 18, students and aspiring programmers can submit their Swift Playgrounds and enter the competition. Sweatshirts, t-shirts and other exclusive merchandise of the event are won (in the pre-Covid years the prize was an entrance ticket to the conference). To support the local economy of San JosƩ, the city where the physical event was to be held, Apple will also pay a million dollars to SJ Aspire, a charity initiative wanted by the Californian city to promote the educational paths of young people living in difficult neighborhoods.

At the moment it is not known whether Apple will also present new hardware products at the WWDC. It is not to be excluded, even if it is expected that substantial news may already arrive in the coming weeks, in a dedicated streaming presentation. In particular, new iMacs with Apple Silicon processors and an update to the iPad Pro range are expected.
