It was quite evident to many that something had changed in the mission which, back in 1891, prompted a group of workers to found what would lead to the birth of the Italian trade unions.
What perhaps the Italian nurses could not have imagined is to be even taken for a ride publicly by the official page of the National Coordination of Health Professions CISL Fp in a discussion on social networks.
To a post made by a user of the Facebook group “Professional Health Nurse”, in which the latter asked what was a reasonable salary to make a nurse happy, the trade union replied with a grotesque message that we could have expected from a non-expert, but never from a trade union which should have as its objective the protection of the contractual, wage and working conditions of nurses.
“If the degree of satisfaction in your life depends on how much money you earn, believe me you are in the wrong job.”
There is no need to dwell on the formal errors of this presumed trade unionist, who, after about 30 years from the university and regulatory reform that made nurses intellectual professionals, still defines them as traders.
The thing that most horrified many was the subsequent invitation to change jobs. Right now that the time should be ripe for the long-awaited contract renewal, we can think that such a comment does not reveal optimism.
My very personal opinion is that this message should serve as a warning to nurses who are entering the profession for the first time, and who are wondering if it is appropriate to join a union for one reason or another.
