I really have no reason to explain why it took me so long to play this game, especially considering everyone who has played it is talking about it. But anyway, it took me years to finally start this adventure, and after coming to the conclusion, I can’t believe it did. Because A Plague Tale: Innocence is a marvel of storytelling. This title from Asobo Studio has a gripping, emotionally complex, narrative full of danger and loss, and spreads enough horror and fear that it’s tense at times. And it’s all bolstered by the excellent performances of protagonists Amicia and Hugo, a brother-sister duo who are asked to navigate a world of despair and danger while dodging hostile Inquisition soldiers.
Essentially, if you’re curious about what The Last of Us would look like, if it’s set in 14th-century France and features unstoppable swarms of rats as terrifying inhuman threats rather than infected zombie-like creatures , then this is the game. For the most part, you play as Amicia and have to lead your brother Hugo through a variety of unique settings and situations to safety, whether it’s levels full of soldiers chasing Hugo’s supernatural mouse-controlling abilities, or just Through the dens of thousands of these very carnivorous rats. Needless to say, most of the time, you’ll be on the edge of your seat as you deal with each unique threat.
Enemies appear in such a way that you have the ability and skill to destroy them when needed – thanks to Amicia’s powerful sling – but if you decide to cause too much trouble, you can also deal with it this way, you can be very Fast to be overwhelmed and surpassed. So the element of stealth is increasingly important and vital to your advantage here, especially when dealing with enemies protected by thick armor plates, or rumbling among thousands of deadly rat swarms nearby Environment.

It’s a design style that can be a bit slow and numb at times, simply because you have to put in so much effort and focus on making sure your companions survive too, which means you can’t just be a one-man army to reach the end goal. Since your partner is a very young boy who has absolutely no idea how life outside the bedroom works, it often feels like you’re spending your time putting out fires rather than being the dominant force in decision-making. Again, this is similar to what the original The Last of Us felt when looking at the dynamic between Joel and a young Ellie.
But to me, the gameplay itself is not what makes A Plague Tale: Innocence such an unforgettable and enjoyable experience. Do not. It’s a storyline and an incredibly grim story. Throughout the game, you really feel like things are going well with Amicia and Hugo, not as the story goes, you almost start to lose hope for the duo, just assuming it’s going to be a story that ends in sadness . It’s this dark tone that completely captivates me and makes me want to keep playing chapter after chapter so I can find out what happens next to my siblings.

In fact, I’ve found myself entertained by A Plague Tale: Innocence as an experience, so much so that the upcoming sequel, A Plague Tale: Requiem, has quickly soared to the top of my most anticipated games coming out in 2022. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Amicia and Hugo, and equally, I’m even more excited to see how the couple behave as older and wiser people. Matching the fact that the sequel is a true next-gen game (it won’t be coming to PS4 and Xbox One), I’d like to see Asobo Studio really go over the top with its visuals and level design, all of which are To deliver a cinematic experience, make Innoocence brilliant and go the extra mile.
If you haven’t had a chance to check out A Plague Tale: Innocence, I highly recommend doing so before Requiem lands this October. Considering you can beat Innocence in about ten hours, there’s a lot of exploration built into that time frame, and considering the game is available on Game Pass (for PC and console), and a sequel is also coming Offered on day one, I’d say if you’re looking for a really fulfilling and entertaining way to spend a weekend, I have absolutely no reason not to jump in. Trust me, it’s worth it.
