You don’t have an air conditioner and “run for cover” with a fan? You would do well not to use it at night while you sleep, it could promote the onset of allergies, asthma and other small health problems: that’s why.
Summer is in full swing and the hot temperatures are starting to be felt. The days are getting hotter, the air is unbreathable and humidity intervenes to make everything even more unbearable. Faced with this mix of factors it seems to be impossible to survive without an air conditioner, it is no coincidence that those who do not have it run for cover with a simple fan. It is often kept on even during the night, forgetting that it may not be the ideal choice in terms of health. The reason? It risks causing asthma and allergies: this is why it should never be used when sleeping, even during the most terrible heat waves.
The ventilator favors the onset of asthma and allergies
The fan is the ideal remedy to freshen the air at home without spending too much on electricity but it has only some small drawbacks: in addition to the fact that its effects are only temporary, if used during the night it risks endangering one’s health. According to some analyzes conducted by the Sleep Advisor website, the ventilator would have negative effects on the quality of sleep. Falling asleep with a fan on promotes the circulation not only of air but also of pollen and dust, making cases of allergy and asthma much more frequent.
The “side effects” of the fan
Keeping the fan pointed at you for entire nights also risks damaging your skin, making it dry and flaky. As if that were not enough, you could also wake up with a feeling of stiffness, especially at the height of the neck, as the fresh air stiffens the muscles, causing involuntary cramps. The expert advice of the sleep site is to avoid using it while sleeping. It would also be good to take a look at the device before using it: if there are accumulations of dust on the propellers and on the support, the ideal is to eliminate them with a damp cloth before putting it into action.
