The debate surrounding Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard King, a surprise blow that could change the structure of the PC and console market of the future, which Blizzard is already trying to relaunch, presenting a new game.
The project doesn’t have a name yet, it’s literally called “Unannounced Survival Game” and for now we only know that it will be, in fact, a game with survival mechanics, therefore probably with the possibility of collecting and transforming some raw materials, based on a vaguely fantasy setting, at least judging by the only two images available, which may show absolutely nothing of the final product.
The most interesting aspect is that it is a totally new intellectual property, so about 8 years after the arrival of Overwatch, which represented Blizzard’s first deviation from the groove traced by the triad Warcraft/Starcraft/Diablo, the company seems ready to sail unknown seas and with almost none of the historical members of the group, who have left over the years due to differences with Bobby Kotick or to seek their fortune elsewhere.

First totally new project in 8 years
Announcing this new game was Mike Ybarra, who currently heads the company on his own afterwards the departure of co-director Jean O’Neal, who left on November 2nd after less than 3 months because she was not paid like her colleague. Ybarra explained that the game is already quite late in development, so it has probably been in the works for at least a couple of years, and it would be playable. Maybe we could even see something concrete, if not by the end of 2022, at least for next year.
In an open letter, Ybarra urged players to “undertake a journey into a completely new universe as part of a survival game for PC and console. It will be a place full of heroes to meet, stories to tell and adventures to experience. A vast realm full of possibilities awaits you, a universe just waiting to be explored. Because every story needs a narrator and every world needs builders: what if that builder were to be you? “. And with this it doesn’t just refer to the possible possibility of creating something in the game, because Blizzard is really looking for various figures regarding the development of the project.
The move obviously amazed everyone, both in terms of timing and why Blizzard is far behind with at least 3 projects: Diablo 4, Diablo in mobile version e Overwatch 2. Adding new projects doesn’t seem like the best way to complete existing ones, but perhaps with this announcement Blizzard is trying to further push away the ghosts of the past, proving that it is already aimed at a future of novelty.
Will it be the right choice? We will only find out when we can touch this new title first hand. Hoping it wasn’t developed by unnecessarily harassing or stressing those who worked on it.
