Remember the car that changes body color with a click? Now – with the help of the startup brainboost, the BMW iX Flow was connected directly to the participants’ brains using an electroencephalogram (EEG) which records the electrical activity of the brain. “The color models of the BMW iX Flow react to brain activity and reflect its activity level,” explains Philipp Heiler, CEO of brainboost. “Once the brain is at rest, the pattern changes on the iX Flow also become calmer and more regular.” A special animation was triggered if participants were able to maintain this state for several seconds. In this way, the participants were able to gradually calm and relax their minds under the guidance of the brainboost experts and with the help of the neurofeedback received via the iX Flow. In this way, knowledge is gained of which strategies work best to specifically calm one’s brain activity and relax, for example in everyday working life. Thus color-changing technology is controlled with the brain. The iX Flow body is in fact coated with a special film containing millions of color capsules. When stimulated by electrical impulses, the negatively charged white pigments or the positively charged black pigments collect on the surface, thus changing the external color.
