WELCOME, listening, communication, empathy. In one word: humanization. This is what the Europa Donna Italia initiative “Umberto Veronesi Recognition to Laudato Medico”, now in its fifth edition, looks at.
Starting from October 1st and until the end of the month, patients can report on the site the specialists who have been able to establish a relationship of trust and closeness with them, with a simple and accessible language. On the basis of the reports received, four Awards will be awarded, each for a specific professional category: surgery, oncology, radiology and radiotherapy. Among the criteria that patients are asked to report: the availability of the doctor, the ability to listen, the adoption of clear and simple communication, empathy and the support provided.
“With the attribution of this Recognition we intend to consolidate in the medical profession a judgment of collective value on the importance of humanization – says Rosanna D’Antona, President of Europa Donna Italia – An attitude of understanding, listening and concrete support is not, in fact , a corollary for a good treatment path. Instead, it is a fundamental aspect that cannot be neglected, capable not only of improving the quality of life of patients affected by the disease, but also of increasing the effectiveness of the therapy ”.
The Onda Foundation also participates in the initiative, this year for the first time, and will be the spokesperson for the project at the Breast Units of the hospitals to which the “Pink Stamp” has been awarded. We are talking about structures close to women that offer diagnostic-therapeutic paths and services dedicated to female pathologies with the patient at the center. “We are very happy to support this initiative that enhances the figure of the doctor in the path of care of the cancer patient, through our network of Pink Stamps – concludes Francesca Merzagora, Founder and President of Fondazione Onda – Since 2007 we have been awarding the Pink Stamps to the Italian hospitals “closest to women” with the aim of fostering and promoting a gender approach within Italian hospitals which is indispensable to guarantee increasingly personalized diagnosis and treatment for the female population ”.
