Multi-organ sampling yesterday at San Marco, to donate the organs of a 21-year-old young man from Ragusa who last Sunday, in the afternoon, while he was practicing outdoor activities together with friends, felt ill and lost consciousness. Upon arrival of the rescuers, the clinical conditions were extremely serious, due to a cerebral hemorrhage.
Transported by helicopter to the San Marco hospital, he underwent emergency neurosurgery and then transferred to resuscitation but despite the attempts of the doctors to save his life on 12 May the boy died. The young man, however, as soon as he reached the age of majority, had taken care to officially declare his favor for organ donation. This is how the organizational machine for organ harvesting by the company coordinator for transplants Dr. Alessandro Conte and the Transplant Coordinator of S. Marco Dr. Rosalinda Guglielmino. On May 13, five teams from all over Italy, including the one for the removal of corneas of the Policlinico-San Marco directed by Dr. Davide Scollo, carried out the multi-organ sampling. The destinations of the organs were respectively the heart in Udine, the lungs in Turin, the liver in Rome, the kidneys in Padua and Palermo, the pancreas and corneas in Palermo.
