2021 was undoubtedly (also) the year of the consecration of TikTok, which in September it reached the milestone of one billion subscribers, despite being banned in India and therefore cut off from a market of 1.38 billion inhabitants.
TikTok, second and give by Apptopia, it was also the most downloaded social app in the world: With 656 million downloads in 2021, it collected 111 million more downloads than Instagram and 240 million more than Facebook. And it was a record 2021 also in Italy, with more than 10 million monthly users and just under 7 hours spent on average every month by young people, and also very many not so young, in our country. So much so that even the Teatro alla Scala in Milan has opened to the platform, offering informative content and entertainment.
Towards the end of the year, Vincenzo Cosenza has drawn up the ranking of the most followed tiktokers in Italy. And now the platform has become the territory of new influencers who have been able to make the most of its creative palette. According to One Shot, one of the many agencies operating in the management and digital communication sector, also in Italy, some of the largest influencers on TikTok even manage to invoice one million euros a year.
On the so-called economics of creators, or (simplifying) the ability to turn likes into money, Forbes, earlier this month, drew up the ranking of the highest paid TikTok stars in the world: D’Amelio sisters, Charli and Dixie, top the list of the highest earning tiktokers, ranking first and second respectively. In 2021, Charli, who has the most followers on the app (133 million), earned about $ 17.5 million, while with 57 million followers, his sister hit $ 10 million.
