Courting the Color, Oppo colors the history of Wimbledon

by admin

Oppo is one of the sponsors of the Wimbledon tournament, perhaps the most famous of tennis tournaments, and to celebrate the return of the competition it has thought of the Courting the Color initiative: thanks to the use of technology and collaboration with Getty Images, some iconic photographs of the past have been given color to tell the story behind each of them.

This photographic collection, visible online, brings to life the most beautiful and representative moments of tennis in a way never seen before: Courting the Color was presented during an exclusive workshop in London which featured Kevin Cho, managing director of Oppo Uk, a legendary tennis player like Greg Rusedski, celebrated commentator Andrew Cotter and a fashion icon like Caroline Issa; during the workshop the photographic collection was shown and it was possible to personally test Oppo’s innovative imaging technology thanks to the smartphone Find X3 Pro.

How Courting the Color was made
Thanks to Oppo’s technology, every single image has been subjected to a lengthy restoration process by Getty experts: The collection, consisting of 7 photos, portrays iconic moments, such as when the first African American athletes (Althea Gibson and Arthur Ashe) won at Wimbledon, giving new life to key moments in the history of tennis and sport in general. The images of Suzanne Lenglen, Helen Jacobs and Fred Perry, famous for bringing style and glamor to the playing field, pay homage to true cultural icons, who fought for their identity and their beliefs: “The return of tennis must be celebrated, and what better way than by exploring iconic moments that made this sport what it is today? – said Rusedski – The innovation and high technology behind this project have meant that these images, some over 80 years old, appear to have been taken yesterday, offering an unprecedented point of view and rekindling important conversations on key issues for the world of sport “.
