Not all pregnancies are the same when we talk about Covid-19. In the event of infection, women pregnant with a male child produce fewer antibodies than those pregnant with a child, and also transfer fewer antibodies to the fetus. To tell us this is a new study recently published on Science Translational Medicine, the findings of which not only have important implications for the management of pregnancies during this pandemic, but could also help clarify an open mystery: why men account for the largest percentage of deaths and serious cases linked to Covid 19, despite the incidence of infections is essentially the same for both sexes.
