Covid, China begins vaccinating children aged 3 to 11

by admin

In China, the green light has arrived for the administration of the anti-Covid vaccine to children between the ages of 3 and 11. While 76% of the population has completed the vaccination cycle, in recent days some local governments of cities and at least five provinces had issued warnings on the start of vaccination plans even for the youngest. The national anti-Covid vaccination campaign in China will therefore also be extended to under 12s, hitherto excluded from administration. The decision confirms the will of the Beijing authorities to continue to follow the zero tolerance policy towards Covid, even in the face of the latest outbreaks recorded in the country, which have led to a further push to the vaccination plan. Meanwhile, to prevent new waves, the government has canceled in addition to the Wuhan marathon also that of Beijing, scheduled for October 31 and where about 30,000 participants were expected.
The event was postponed until further notice “in order to prevent the risk of the epidemic from spreading and effectively protect the health and safety of most runners, staff and residents.” Yesterday in China, just over 100 days before the start of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, as communicated by the National Health Commission, another 35 new home-transmitted Sars-Cov-2 coronavirus infections were detected.
The new outbreak of infections, which began about 10 days ago, is linked to a group of tourists who were in Shanghai before flying to Xian, Gansu and Inner Mongolia. Of the infections reported on Sunday, 19 relate to Inner Mongolia, four each in Guizhou and Gansu, two in Beijing, Hebei and Shaanxi.
Also yesterday, the authorities announced the suspension of interprovincial tourist groups in five areas where cases have been detected, including Beijing. In addition, some cities, such as Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu, and parts of Inner Mongolia have suspended bus and taxi services and closed tourist sites.
