The more a virus replicates and circulates, the more likely it is that changes will occur in its genome. They are called mutations and new microorganisms variants. Those of Sars-CoV-2 are over hundreds, mainly concern the Spike protein, used to attach itself to our cells.
The WHO (World Health Organization) monitors them constantly, and, if significant, reports to the countries involved any interventions to prevent their spread.
