== Covid: Lopalco, ‘yes to gradual closures, curfew not useful’ – Last Hour

(ANSA) – ROME, JUL 31 – Gradual closures based on the progress of hospitalizations are more useful than curfews. This is the opinion of the epidemiologist Pier Luigi Lopalco, professor of general and applied hygiene at the University of Pisa and councilor for health in Puglia. In an interview with Il Messaggero, Lopalco approves the risk control system connected to admissions with rules that trigger gradual closures (yellow, orange, red zone). Rules that “serve – for the expert – to avoid ending up in a health emergency”. “I believe less in the effectiveness of other impromptu measures such as curfews, unless there are particular local reasons,” he continues.

The “overwhelming majority” of hospitalized in Covid wards, reports the epidemiologist, are not vaccinated. “It is even more valid for intensive care and deaths”, and it does not only speak of over 60s, but also of forties and fifties. Therefore “we must convince these people to get vaccinated, because even if they are reached by the virus it will not have serious consequences for their health“. The mission must be “to vaccinate as much as possible, because if we think of eradicating this virus, we have lost from the start”. It is now clear to the expert “that we will not get rid of it, but if we manage to keep it under control with vaccines and limit hospital admissions, then we will be able to live with it”. (HANDLE).
