Covid: overcrowded departments of the Aou of Sassari, patients on stretchers

by admin

Critical situation in Geratria, Medicine and Medical Pathology

SASSARI. There is an emergency hospitalization in the Aou wards of the Santissima Annunziata hospital in Sassari, where the rooms are overcrowded and dozens of patients are forced on stretchers, placed in the corridors next to waste baskets or piled up in rooms with two beds. It happens in the Geriatrics wards, where this morning at 7 the beds were all occupied and there were 9 patients on stretchers added in the two-bed rooms or placed in the corridor, Medicine for men (7 stretchers), Medicine for women (3 stretchers) and Medical pathology (7 stretchers).

The overcrowding, reported by the patients’ families, is also the effect of the closure, from today, of the medical clinic, whose medical and nursing staff has been diverted to reinforce the other hospital departments and in particular infectious diseases. Here, where 29 patients were hospitalized yesterday out of a total of 33 Covid beds available between ordinary and sub-intensive, the nurses of the medical clinic will arrive shortly. First they will have to follow an accelerated training course to be able to take care of positive patients hospitalized in a sub-intensive regime. (HANDLE).
