The Ministry of Health has published today on its website a food alert concerning a batch of tuna for chemical risk. This is the “Yellow fin tuna steak thawed with added water”, vacuum-packed and sold at variable weight. It should be noted that the withdrawal concerns only the lot 20082117/21 with expiry 07/06/21, manufacturer code IT 2830 CE, produced by the company ITTICA ZU PIETRO SRL with headquarters in the plant in Bisceglie via Warsaw n 9.
What is Anoxic Syndrome
The reason for the report is the “Anoxic Syndrome” which consists of redness of the skin, throbbing headache, oral burning, abdominal cramps, nausea, diarrhea, palpitations, feeling of malaise and rarely hyperthermia or loss of vision. Symptoms usually appear within 10-30 minutes of ingesting the fish and are usually self-limiting.
Physical signs may include diffuse pallor, erythema, tachycardia, dyspnoea, and hypotension or hypertension. People with asthma are more susceptible to breathing problems such as wheezing or bronchospasm. Symptoms of intoxication can appear within minutes and up to two hours following the consumption of spoiled food. The symptoms in question usually last approximately four to six hours and rarely persist for more than one to two days.
