Mourning in healthcare and in the university world Pisan: at the age of 63, Dr. Antonio Lepri, chirurgo oculista oftalmologist among the most appreciated and known in the province. A cardiac arrest was fatal while he was in his home on Tuesday 27 July: esteemed, known appreciated for his seriousness and professionalism mixed with great humanity, he was part of a family with medicine (and ophthalmology) in the blood.
Born in Pisa on January 3, 1958, graduated from the classical Galilei, he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Pisa in 1985, continuing with the specialization in Ophthalmology in 1989. Following the specialization he carried out the civil service at the Italian Blind Union of Pisa in which he performed visual screening in all nursery and primary schools in the province of Pisa for a total of 14620 children. Since 2000 he was professor of the Postgraduate Schools of Neurology and Neurosurgery as well as professor of the Degree Course in Neuro and Psychomotor Therapy of the developmental age, as well as being an expert on the subject in the teaching of Diseases of the Visual Apparatus in the Specialized Degree Course in Medicine and Surgery. From 1989 he practiced his medical profession in Pisa, Lucca and Castelfranco di Sotto.
Author of numerous publications extensively in national and international journals, he also founded a multidisciplinary medical journal entitled ‘Medical Forum‘sharing his editorial activity with that of Scientific Director of the journal’Ophthalmological therapy updates‘which then led him to found the magazine’Journal of Ophthalmology‘around 2000. The funeral was held on the afternoon of Wednesday 28 July.
