“The security of our car data is very important. Tesla will do whatever it takes to ensure it.” The company of Elon Musk writes on Weibo, the most famous Chinese social network, announcing the creation of a new data center, in China, where the data of the cars sold and used in the country will be stored. This means that no information, starting from the images recorded by the dashcam, the video cameras on board, will cross the Chinese borders.
The American carmaker responds in this way to the fears of the Chinese government, which according to Reuters and Bloomberg would have prohibited Tesla vehicles from entering military sites and complexes. A concern that Tesla CEO Elon Musk answered in no uncertain terms during China Development last March: “If Tesla used cars to spy in China, or anywhere else, they would have closed us”.
Reuters also reported anonymous sources according to which, in China, government office personnel were banned from parking Tesla cars near the buildings where the work is carried out.
The new Tesla data center will not be the only one capable of storing data locally: the US company will add more in the Asian country in the future.
