Ffp2 mask on the bus, surgical at work. Pressing to take it off at school

In 10 days, the farewell to the green pass and the indoor masks will take off. But for the latter there may still be some exceptions at least for another month: the Ffp2 should in fact remain mandatory for all transport both local, such as buses and metro, and long-distance such as trains and ferries. Instead, it will be taken off in restaurants, bars, museums and other indoor places, although the recommendation to wear it in case of gatherings will remain. At work, however, the surgical mask may be enough – the social partners will soon decide – while the front of the school opens up where the pressure to remove it grows.

The decision will be made in these days

To decide the final farewell and the possible exceptions from next May 1st will be first of all the experts to whom the Minister of Health will ask for advice Roberto Speranza in the next days. Then the decision will be shared on a “political” level and therefore with Prime Minister Draghi and fellow government ministers. «We evaluate day by day, week by week and many of these evaluations – explained Speranza – still have to be measured, for example the one on indoor masks which at this moment are mandatory. In my opinion they are and remain a very, very important garrison ». Faced with a still high number of infections and a positive rate of tampons around 15%, experts will almost certainly recommend maintaining the obligation of Ffp2 in both short and long-distance transport. The mask may remain mandatory for a while also in other indoor places where distancing is impossible such as cinemas, theaters and discos.

The extension of the surgical work

Instead, the social partners will have to decide how to behave in the workplace. There has already been a first meeting in the past few weeks and another should follow in the coming days. On the table is the extension of the protocols with the anti Covid rules for offices and companies. The idea could therefore be to extend the obligation to wear at least the surgical mask where there is no distance. Just the last decree on Covid at the end of March had already recognized surgical masks as Dpi, personal protective equipment, until the end of April. In any case, companies, for greater protection and prevention of their workers, could ask to maintain, as many already do, the obligation to wear the FFp2 mask inside their premises.

Undersecretary Costa: “Consciousness of self-protection in Italians”

The Undersecretary of Health explains to Sole 24 Ore how the Government could move Andrea Costa: «In the next few days we will meet to make a decision on the masks. I think it is reasonable that on May 1st the masks will no longer be mandatory even indoors, but that we will rather go towards a recommendation. After all, I am convinced that in these two years the Italians have reached a different awareness and developed a self-protection awareness that allows them to understand when to wear it in the presence of crowds, as evidenced by the fact that many fellow citizens still use it outside even though there are no plus the obligation “. But Costa explains «a reflection will certainly be made to maintain the Ffp2 in some particular situations, I am thinking of public transport for local and long-distance transport. I hope this is the synthesis we arrive at ».

Pressing to take them off even at school

The last front that is opening up in these days is that of masks at school which are currently mandatory – according to the provisions of the latest decree on Covid at the end of March – until the end of the school year. But the pressure to remove it is growing as in Spain where in the classrooms of primary and secondary schools it will no longer be necessary to wear it. Undersecretary for Health Costa thinks this: “My position and that of the party I represent, Noi conItalia, is clear: I would like to eliminate them especially during class hours, when the pupils are sitting in their seats and the ventilation systems and guaranteed air exchange and spacing ». The experts are very cautious on this point and so is the Minister of Education Patrizio Bianchi he would like not to change anything until the end of the school year scheduled for June.
