TERMOLI. Eighth episode of the investigation that draws inspiration from the report signed by 19 doctors and head physicians of the San Timoteo hospital and sent to the Asrem top management, the commissioner structure and the Molise Region. After Reanimation, Urology and Ophthalmology, Pediatrics-Nursery and Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Utic-hemodynamics and Transfusion Medicine, today it is the turn of the Emergency Department and Emergency Medicine, which in these 16 months of pandemic has been under pressure as not never before.

“It was certainly the department that more than any other was overwhelmed by the Covid wave, and held up against it with a great spirit of sacrifice. In this emergency, in addition to the First Aid stations and the Emergency Medicine beds, an Obi area has been activated which has proved very useful and which is still being maintained waiting to see the evolution of the pandemic. Furthermore, regardless of Covid, it is the regional emergency room with the highest number of services during the year and even more during the summer season. All this is governed and assisted by 6 indefinite doctors plus the head of the OU, 3 doctors with VAT number and 4 Venezuelan doctors who arrived with a cooperation program whose duration in service is extended from month to month. The stable doctors foreseen for such a structure, definitively avoiding surplus of hours and additional services, should be 14, and when we say stable it means that they can be constantly counted on, without risk of end of assignment or termination of agreements. In fact, more than half of the doctors currently on duty in this OU are not on permanent contracts. Furthermore, it is anomalous that such a structure is not UOC and therefore does not have a permanent director who, as already mentioned, would ensure continuity and training and would attract other doctors. We would like to clarify in this regard, anticipating what we are going to say on the methods of recruiting personnel, that in nearby Puglia public notices and competitions have been announced which, in derogation of the normal competition rules, also accepted applications from non-specialists or emergency room specialists, who they also had only (in addition to the medical degree!) the certificate of a BLS or similar course. It could be a useful way to expand the number of doctors who can apply, also in consideration of the very positive experience that has been encountered with young doctors hired in emergency with IP The number of nurses present in the OU, overall for all its articulations (including health care acceptance which is handled administratively elsewhere), is of 33 nurses, one of which is absent due to injury and limitations, and three part-time, 6 on a temporary basis, 1 in command and 17 OSS. It is therefore essential to provide 7 more nurses and 2 OSS to reach the optimal minimum of staff ».
