First vaccine against malaria approved by the WHO

by admin

WHO has approved the first vaccine to prevent malaria, which could save tens of thousands of children in Africa every year. Malaria kills about half a million people every year, half of them children under the age of 5, mainly in sub-Saharan Africa. It is one of the oldest and most dangerous infectious diseases and the new vaccine, produced by GlaxoSmithKline, which donated ten million doses, activates the immune system of children against Plasmodium falciparum, one of the five malaria pathogens and the most lethal, as well as the one prevalent in Africa.
