Like every year, Halloween prepares to bring the right amount of fear, between a trick and a treat, after a themed film or a nice evening in disguise, you can immerse yourself in the virtual horror of a video game. We have therefore selected five scary titles, to play alone or with friends, perfect for pulling until dawn and seeing the darkness dissolve.
Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes
Abandoned the teen horror atmosphere of the first two episodes, the third chapter of Dark Pictures Anthology, developed by Supermassive Games, always with its unmistakable cinematic cut, takes us in 2003 in full Iraqi territory, to participate in the events that will overwhelm an American task force made up of five characters. Having received the report of the discovery of an underground chemical weapons depot, the team will travel to the place and, as in any horror story, the situation soon degenerates in a completely unexpected way.
The Supermassive title, available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S, it is perfect for spending the Night of the Dead in the company of friends thanks to the possibility of playing both locally, up to five participants, and online with up to two people. The local mode, in the same physical place, provides that each player controls a different character, he will therefore be free to make his choices influencing the plot, the fate of his avatar and the end of the game. For guaranteed fun, be wise in your decisions.
Resident Evil 4 VR
An unforgettable survival horror classic returns, just in time to celebrate Halloween: Resident Evil 4, in VR exclusive to the Oculus Quest 2 headset. The Capcom video game, optimized for virtual reality, is identical to the version that debuted in 2005 for the Nintendo GameCube console, except for two additional contents, the Mercenaries mode and the mini-story dedicated to the character of Ada. Put on your helmet and immerse yourself in El Pueblo, a remote Galician village, be Leon Kennedy and save Ashley Graham, daughter of the US president kidnapped by a strange, very strange religious sect. The ingredients are all there … even the living dead.
Project Zero: Maiden of Blackwater
The remastered of Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water, available from 28 October for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, sees the return of the series produced by Koei Tecmo, a saga whose twentieth anniversary occurs. The title, launched in 2015 as an exclusive on Nintendo Wii U, proposes a horror vision of Japanese taste and aesthetics, a ghost story, based on several urban legends that tell of haunted and cursed places. Each city has its cursed places, its urban legends; before playing the Koei Tecmo title, a real night tour around the haunted places is recommended to better enjoy the virtual thrills.
Alan Wake Remastered
Eleven years after the onset of the cult title of Remedy, Alan Wake, which was released exclusively on Xbox 360, the horror thriller returns in an updated and optimized version for the current generation consoles. The game, a third-person action with a very strong Kinghian imprint, sees as the protagonist the writer Alan Wake, who gives advice from his wife Alice, to exorcise the terrible creative block in which he has been for too long, allows himself a holiday in a cottage on the islet of Cauldron Lake, an imposing lake near the the charming town of Bright Falls.
Remained unchanged in its play sector, the Remastered by Alan Wake uses dark and light as the foundation of gameplay. Before shooting the dark and dangerous shadows that crowd the surroundings of Bright Falls, you must first dissolve its aura of darkness by aiming the flashlight at it. For those who have never played Sam Lake’s masterpiece, screenwriter of Max Payne e Alan Wake, there is no better night than Halloween to catch up a fundamental title in the history of videogames.
Back 4 Blood
Heir to Left 4 Dead, Back 4 Blood, developed by Turtle Rock Studios is a very adrenaline-pumping zombie shooter, where you can face, with a respectable arsenal, hordes and hordes and hordes of the undead. The Campaign allows you to play in mode online cooperative with a team of up to four people, in single player mode you lead a team to victory.
Particularly fun is the PvP, player vs player, call mode Swarm which sees direct challenges between two groups that will alternate in the roles first of Exterminators and then of Infested. In each round you have to resist the time indicated by the timer, continuously killing the opponents and avoiding that all members of your team are on the ground. In honor of the Night of the Dead, step into the shoes of the poor virtual zombie, a creature harassed, persecuted, ostracized throughout the long history of the video game.
