We have now understood that the creative generation of TV series is in the hands of an algorithm, not too sophisticated, which remixes elements of the past as if there were no questions. Sometimes it’s inspired, much more often it’s clerical work. This July there is a lot of work and little originality. So let’s settle for Reesident Evil: the Series that at least has a new story and the series in the High School Musical series. The only surprise, perhaps, but perhaps, is Black Bird on Apple +. But even the trailer smacks of already seen.
Resident Evil: The Series – Season 1 – July 14
Resident Evil, Capcom’s survival horror video game has spawned numerous clones in cinemas and on TV. The television series, however, wants to mix the cards a bit. It is an original story that tells the adventures of Jade Wesker, daughter of the “villain” Albert Wesker played by Lance Reddick. It will arouse quite a few controversies among the most orthodox fans of the videogame franchise. (Netflix)
Westworld – Season 4 – July 4th
If you are looking for dystopia, absence and androids in July then you are in the right place. Incomprehensibly loved by countless fans, it is the best series on sentient synthetic life you can find. Behind is Jonathan Nolan and HBO. It is not for everyone. But if you have reached the third season you cannot face this too. Moreover, Evan Rachel Wood returns and not to give life to Dolores. School Musical: The Musical: The Series – Stagione 3 – 27 luglio
This is an example of an algorithm: if you are looking for US high school lockers, colorful vests and students singing in the mess hall and you can’t get enough of them this is your series. There is really nothing new. The new generation of theater students except a few new songs and the usual rogue nostalgia remakes. The metateatral version of High School Musical is brought to the stage. So good. (Disney +)
The Terminal List – Season 1 – July 2
Here too we are inside an algorithm. The protagonist is a Navy Seals which, however, is not like the other Navy Seals. James Reece played by Chris Pratt is a legend for what he did in Afghanistan. He doesn’t see her as he bosses him, he thinks he’s crazy but he’s not, and he fights like a comic book hero. The series does not shine for originality but the talent of Chris Pratt is not in dispute. (Amazon Prime)
