Approximately one million Italians suffer from gastritis. Most are women, who are found to periodically experience symptoms: cramps, heartburn and nausea.
Gastritis is inflammation of the mucous membrane that lines the inside of the stomach. It appears when the defensive barrier that protects it weakens. The cause can be a stressful event, an autoimmune reaction, an infection helicobacter pylori, alcohol abuse or prolonged use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
It is a very common ailment and for this reason it is also good to know the foods not to eat and two rules to follow to fight gastritis.
As reported by the Veronesi Foundation, there are some precautions to follow and to accompany any drug treatment prescribed by a specialist.
Foods not to eat and two rules to follow to fight gastritis
The consumption of some foods should be strictly avoided. Starting with drinks containing caffeine or methylxanthines, carbonated or too hot and spices in high quantities, wine and spirits. In general, we also advise against the consumption of meat broth, extracts for broths and soups containing these ingredients, spicy or fermented cheeses and sausages.
Avoid frying foods and prefer other cooking methods, such as steaming or grilling.
Avoiding large meals and introducing snacks is very important to promote proper digestion
The Veronesi Foundation also focused on the importance of avoiding large meals, especially in the evening. Better to spread them throughout the day, trying to always eat at the same times. The advice is to introduce two snacks, one mid-morning and the other mid-afternoon, so as to buffer stomach acid, which can increase due to prolonged fasting.
Eat slowly
Chewing slowly when eating has many benefits. It is also important to fight gastritis, as it promotes digestion. At the end of lunch or dinner, remain seated for another ten minutes. When you eat you have to do it without haste, dedicating the right time to the meal.
