Cars have had automatic road sign recognition systems for years, often linked to electronic speed control. But, at least in Italy, they are unusable: we have absurd limits, placed there only to ensure that road managers do not end up in jail a case of accidents due to poor maintenance. So every driver is forced to defuse them to avoid dangerous rear-end collisions.
But here is Ford’s idea: use geofencing technology to create a virtual area where vehicles slow down on their own, helping drivers especially when they are on unfamiliar roads or on paths where road signs are covered by vegetation.
It must be said that speed is one of the main causes of road accidents and for this reason the risks for all road users with the technology that alone reduces the speed of the car. Testing in Cologne, Germany is currently using the Ford E-Transit All-Electric and it is giving outstanding results.
