Former Italian Fencing Player Under Investigation for Child Pornography Production

Former Italian fencing player Andrea Cassarà is currently under investigation by the Brescia prosecutor’s office for allegedly producing child pornography. The investigation was initiated based on the complaint of a 15-year-old girl, who claimed that she had noticed a mobile phone recording her while she was showering in the changing rooms of the San Filippo gym in the city. Although the girl was unable to identify the person holding the phone, the military acquired security camera footage from outside the gym, which reportedly showed Cassarà in the vicinity at the same time.

In response to these findings, the Brescia Prosecutor’s Office decided to investigate Cassarà, seizing his cell phone in hopes of finding evidence to support the allegations. According to the Courier, the police discovered a video on Cassarà’s smartphone, but further examination is needed to determine if it is related to the incident in the gym. It is worth noting that Cassarà had previously faced a complaint for obscene acts against a woman in 2009, although he was acquitted by the Supreme Court. The alleged incident, which took place in 2007 in Cremona, involved Cassarà approaching a woman on her bicycle, exposing himself, and then leaving the scene.

Andrea Cassarà is a renowned Italian fencer, specializing in foil, and is a member of the CS Carabinieri club. He achieved great success throughout his career, winning the gold medal in the team foil event at the Athens Olympics in 2004, as well as the world cup in 2006. In 2018, he won gold in the team foil at the Fencing World Championships, and he also won bronze in the individual event in 2004. He was crowned the European individual foil champion in Kiev in 2008. Cassarà was honored with the Commander of Merit of the Italian Republic in 2004. He most recently participated in the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
