Frecciarosa, prevention returns to travel

by admin

BACK, and again “in presence”, the train of breast cancer prevention: the Frecciarosa, which for the 11th consecutive year brings the culture of female health and early diagnosis of breast cancer around Italy. From 1 to 31 October, in fact, the high-speed trains, the regional ones and the FrecciaLounge stations host meetings with specialists dedicated to women and free online consultations can be obtained on the “Frecciarosa Platform” (www.frecciarosa.it).

“The purpose of ‘Frecciarosa’ is to spread the culture of prevention in a less dramatic and unusual context: trains and stations become meeting places between doctors and citizens in a symbolic ‘journey into health“, he says. Adriana Bonifacino, President of IncontraDonna Onlus, the association that promotes the project together with the FS Italiane Group, with the patronage of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Health and the support of the Italian Association of Medical Oncology (AIOM) and Farmindustria. An important project because, recalls the oncologist “For 2020 alone in Italy, almost 55 thousand new diagnoses of breast cancer have been estimated, the most frequent neoplasm in the entire population”.

Missed screening due to Covid

The restart of Italy after the pandemic inevitably passes through health. After the crisis of the national health service of recent times and the blocking or slowing down of screening, it is necessary to make up for lost ground. In 2020, compared to 2019, there are over 3,300 missed diagnoses of breast cancer, 2,700 of cervical cancer, 1,300 of colorectal cancer and over 7,400 of advanced colorectal adenomas, precisely due to the blocking and delays in restarting the programs secondary prevention. “It is our task to rapidly reverse these numbers, otherwise they will increase exponentially – adds Bonifacino – In the coming years, the management of oncological diseases will be more complex, because delays risk causing diagnoses at a more advanced stage”.

Orietta Berti and Carolyn Smith are the new testimonials

Furthermore, the pandemic has removed the population from healthy lifestyles in terms of healthy nutrition and physical activity. Precisely for this reason the testimonials of the 2021 edition are the singer Orietta Berti and the dance teacher Carolyn Smith, an icon of the battle against cancer, which through his example has given courage and hope to thousands of cancer patients. Flaminia Fegarotti will bear further testimony as a patient.

“Dancing and, more generally, physical activity practiced regularly represent an important primary prevention tool – he explains Giordano Beretta, National President of AIOM -. The strongest scientific evidence concerns cancer of the bladder, breast, endometrium, esophagus, stomach, colorectal and kidney. These studies show an association between increased physical activity and reduced cancer risk, which for some cancers reaches 20%. Moderate-intensity exercise is also useful after cancer diagnosis and has become part of the management of the disease. For example, the link between physical activity, fewer relapses and longer survival in women with breast cancer is shown. In these patients, physical activity also reduces the anxiety-depressive syndrome and improves the quality of life. We are proud to collaborate in the realization of projects such as ‘Frecciarosa’, promoted by the world of volunteering and aimed at all citizens ”.

Ten years plus one

The territorial network and prevention are the main levers to face and overcome the challenges of the future. The pandemic has taught us that it is necessary to bring prevention, health education and socio-health care policies back to the center of priorities and investments, to reform the National Health Service with vision and courage ”.

A ‘Marshall Plan’ to redesign post-Covid healthcare

“Trenitalia and the entire FS Italiane Group confirm their support for the ‘Frecciarosa’ project which in ten years has enabled thousands of men and women to receive, on board trains or in the rooms dedicated to travelers, visits and medical information on correct lifestyles , improving the culture of prevention – says Luigi Corradi, CEO and General Manager of Trenitalia -. Social sustainability is one of the values that guides us, fundamental for all our activities. Our attention to the needs of people is strong, starting from the construction phases of a train conceived and designed to accommodate everyone up to the needs of passengers before, during and after the journey. In this edition ‘Frecciarosa’ will return to travel aboard our trains covering the whole national territory “.

Health also passes through gender equity at work

“I proudly remember the courage and determination of women in the battle against Covid, as healthcare professionals, doctors, nurses and as public researchers and pharmaceutical companies”, adds Enrica Giorgetti, General Manager of Farmindustria: “Women who represented and they represent a pillar of health and its management at the family and social level, as the main caregivers. And who often heal others but neglect themselves. This is why it is essential to continue to spread that culture of prevention that, as pharmaceutical companies, we have been promoting for some time, with targeted welfare on the person. Leading companies for female employment that reaches 43% of employees (compared to an industry average of 29%) and in R&D it even rises to 52%. And women – she concludes – often hold positions of responsibility: they are in fact 42% of executives and middle managers (52% among the under 40s). In pharmaceuticals, gender equality has been a reality for years “.
