From the woods of Cilento the biomattonella that aims to replace plastic

by admin

The exclusive use of renewable raw materials in bio-plastics represents the challenge to make a concrete contribution to safeguarding the environment. With this assumption, the zero impact and plastic free bio-tile was conceived which, once on the market, can be used in the most disparate uses, from packaging for agri-food products to construction.

The project won the “Circular Bioeconomy” section of the BioInItaly National Roadshow, an Assobiotec event in collaboration with Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center and Cluster Spring, dedicated to researchers, companies and aspiring entrepreneurs with the aim of bringing together the innovative ideas presented with investors of all the world.

The prototype of the totally “made in Campania” bio-tile is the result of the ingenuity of the Salerno startup Service Biotech, founded by the young biotechnologists Salvatore Del Prete and Daniela Marasco, coordinated by the Zeb twd Zeeb research group born on the initiative of Antonella Violano, teacher of the Department of Architecture and Industrial Design of the Luigi Vanvitelli University of Naples.

A synergy that involved, in a memorandum of understanding, the small town of Piaggine, a municipality in Salerno in the upper Cilento, which provided the “raw material” of the bio-tile, or the waste materials of agricultural and wooded activities, the products of the undergrowth of Mount Cervati.

“With the Vanvitelli University and Service Biotech we are planning new forms of collaboration that can have training and employment implications in our small village,” said Guglielmo Vairo, mayor of Piaggine.
