Genenta, Depop, Uala and other new entries in the Italian Tech db

There is Genenta Science, a biotech active in the field of gene therapies anti-cancer, and there is Depop, which sells and buys used clothing and which has been acquired by the giant Etsy. Genenta Science is a company founded by Pierluigi Paracchi, San Raffaele hospital in Milan, by professor Luigi Naldini and doctor Bernhard Gentner. He deals with gene therapies for the fight against cancer. In 2019, it closed a € 13.2 million capital increase led by the Chinese investment fund Qianzhan Investment. Genenta, which has raised nearly $ 34 million in funding, is about to go public on Nasdaq.

Depop is a startup founded in 2011 by Simon Beckerman which has developed a mobile commerce that allows you to sell and buy new or used clothes and accessories directly from your smartphone. In 2019, the company closed a $ 62 million round led by General Atlantic. Born in H-Farm and now based in London, in 2021 it was acquired by the American e-commerce giant Etsy for 1.63 billion dollars.

Uala is a startup that has developed a platform dedicated to beauty salons and spas. Founded in Milan in 2013 by Alessandro Bruzzi, Enzo Li Volti, Luca Mattivi and Luca Tironi, it also landed in France with a view to an expansion process of online booking in the beauty world that has already touched Spain, Portugal and Greece. In 2019 it closed a 15 million euro round led by Immobiliare.it.

Newronika is a spin-off of the Politecnico di Milano and of the University of Milan and active in the development of technologies for deep brain stimulation to be used on patients suffering from Parkinson’s disease. In 2019 it closed a round of 8.4 million euros led by the French venture capital fund Omnes Capital.

Pillo Health is an Italian-American startup founded in 2015 by Emanuele Musini, who developed a platform for home care (thanks also to the use of voice technologies and a robot, which remembers the drugs prescribed by the doctor). In 2019, it closed a $ 11 million capital increase led by Boston’s Stanley Black & Decker corporate venture capital division, with the participation of Samsung Ventures. In 2020 the company was acquired by Stanley Black & Decker itself.

Freeda Media is a publishing startup founded in 2016 by Andrea Scotti Calderini and Gianluigi Casole who deals with content for women and millennials. In 2019 it closed a $ 10 million round, led by French venture capitalist Alven Capita and participated by U-Start.

Wash Out is a startup that has developed a car wash service on the street by booking via smartphone. Founded in 2016, the company was incubated for two years by SpeedMiUp, accelerator of Bocconi University. In 2020 it closed a capital increase (for an undeclared amount): between Telepass and Boost Heroes investors.

Sens-In is a startup that develops smart screws, using artificial intelligence technologies applied to the hardware sector. Founded in Bologna in 2019, in 2020 it closed a seed round (for an undeclared amount) led by Gellify Digital Investments.
