Gimbe: “The 100% attendance school goal is at risk” – Health

by admin

“The government’s goal of guaranteeing 100% attendance schooling risks being strongly disregarded as evidenced by the number of classes and students already in quarantine. It is a very risky strategy to focus exclusively on vaccination without systematic screening and system interventions on aeration, ventilation and transport management “. This was stated by the president of the Gimbe Foundation, Nino Cartabellotta, participating in an event promoted by Cittadinanzattiva in which he presented a preview of the Gimbe Report on Covid 19 Safety in schools.

“Zero risk at school does not exist – says Nino Cartabellotta – it is needed a multisystem approach “ to combat the spread of Covid in schools, because – according to some simulations – even if there are students and staff vaccinated, masks are used, there is distancing, screening is done, 13% of students still risk to become infected.

“The hypothesis of abandonment of the masks even if everyone is vaccinated in the classroom, it does not rely on any scientific evidence “. This was said by the president of the Gimbe Foundation Nino Cartabellotta, speaking at the presentation of a report by Cittadinanzattiva.” The studies show – explained the expert – that the masks they reduce the risk of contagion even if all students are vaccinated by 50% for low immunity, 35% for medium immunity and 24% for high immunity. With the variant the percentages rise to 70%, 57% and 41%.

In the population between 0 and 19 years between 30 August and 12 September they were registered 17,312 new cases of Covid, 190 people were hospitalized, 2 hospitalized in intensive care, no deaths were recorded. In the same age group, between 16 and 29 August, therefore when the schools had not started, there were 22,843 new cases with 297 hospitalizations 4 hospitalized in intensive care, 0 deaths. Cartabellotta highlighted that infections are falling especially in the 12-19 age group while hospitalizations of children under 3 years have increased.

According to the Gimbe analysis, 32.3% of students in the population 12-19 years old did not receive any dose, young people from the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, Valle d’Aosta (40.4%) and Liguria stand out ( 40%). The most vaccinated young people are those of Puglia (25%), Lombardy (24%) and Sardinia, the latter are the most vaccinated of all, only 24.2% are not vaccinated. In the 12-19 age group, 52.1% equal to 2.374.04, underwent the full course of vaccinations, 15.6% equal to 712.088 took the first dose and 32.3% equal to 1.470. 788 no dose.

I salivary tests are the future for ease of use “but the few studies performed on them show that the possibility of detecting positives is between 53 and 73%. More studies are needed, also to standardize the method of sample collection”, Cartabellotta highlighted.
