The algorithm for snoring and coughing detection will be transformed into Bedside Monitoring on Android devices. In addition to monitoring coughing and snoring during nighttime sleep on the device, Google also said that in order to protect the privacy of users, This feature only works on the device itself.
Back in 2020, Google introduced a bedtime core into the clock that worked with Digital Wellbeing to calculate how much time users spent in bed. This involves access permissions for motion and light detection by the Clock app, while Fitbit offers snoring and noise detection on the Sense and Versa 3 models, and Google’s second-generation Nest Hub has similar features .
It’s unclear if snoring and cough detection is a broader Android feature or a Pixel-exclusive feature. At the very least, it’s likely to debut on the Pixel first; while it’s unknown which app the feature will belong to, Google Fit and Clock are clearly among the candidates. Another theory to consider is that this feature is for the upcoming Nest Tablet, which means that Google will most likely attract more users by making it available on all Android phones.
